Publishing in open-access journals is one of the most powerful ways to ensure scientific work reaches the global community. Yet for many researchers — particularly those at early career stages or in institutions with limited research budgets — Article Processing Charges (APCs) remain a significant financial barrier. The UK Association for Biotechnology and Computational Science (UKABCS) is proud to offer the Open-Access Publication Support Grant — a competitive programme that provides full or partial APC waivers for researchers submitting to the International Journal of Biotechnology and Computational Science (IJBTCS), the official peer-reviewed journal of UKABCS.This grant reflects UKABCS's commitment to open science, equitable access to publication, and the global dissemination of high-quality scientific research.
[!IMPORTANT] This grant is exclusively for publication in the IJBTCS (International Journal of Biotechnology and Computational Science) — the official UKABCS journal. It does not cover APCs for any other journal, regardless of impact factor or open-access status.
| Support Type | Details |
|---|---|
| Full APC Waiver | 100% of the IJBTCS Article Processing Charge is covered by UKABCS. The author pays nothing to publish. |
| Partial APC Waiver | A percentage of the IJBTCS APC is covered by UKABCS. The author covers the remaining portion. |

| ✅ Full APC Waiver Awarded | 100% of the IJBTCS APC is covered. The author publishes at no cost. Awarded to applications demonstrating outstanding scientific merit and financial need. |
| ⚡ Partial APC Waiver Awarded | A portion of the APC is covered; the author is responsible for the remainder. Awarded where full waiver is not warranted based on the committee's assessment. |
| ❌ Application Not Funded (Rejected) | The application does not meet the required threshold for funding. The author is responsible for the full APC if they choose to proceed with submission. Rejected applicants may reapply in the next quarterly cycle. |
The Grants Committee's decision is final. Applicants may request brief written feedback to support a stronger reapplication.
