UKABCS Officially Launches to Empower Global Biotechnology & Computational Science

The UK Association for Biotechnology & Computational Science (UKABCS) is proud to announce its official launch in 2025 as a UK-based, non-profit academic society committed to transforming the future of science and education. This landmark step reflects years of preparation and collaboration, with the ultimate goal of building a vibrant, transparent, and internationally connected research ecosystem that empowers scientists across the globe.

From its inception, UKABCS was envisioned as more than just an academic association. It is designed to be a platform for capacity building, where education, research, and industry meet. By combining expertise in biotechnology, computational science, and artificial intelligence, the Association aims to provide practical solutions to pressing global challenges in health, agriculture, drug discovery, and environmental sustainability.

At the heart of UKABCS’s mission is a dedication to democratizing access to advanced knowledge. Scientific progress should not be limited by geography, resources, or language. Too often, groundbreaking tools and training remain confined to elite institutions. UKABCS breaks down those barriers by offering training programmes, professional diplomas, capacity-building grants, and publishing opportunities that make cutting-edge science accessible to researchers worldwide, including those from underrepresented and developing regions.

The Association is also built upon a foundation of transparency, accountability, and good governance. With clear policies on grant-making, due diligence, financial governance, conflict of interest, and GDPR compliance, UKABCS ensures that all of its initiatives are fair, inclusive, and aligned with international standards such as those of UKRI. By publishing annual reports and budgets, the Association demonstrates its commitment to building trust with its members, partners, and funders.

Equally important is UKABCS’s emphasis on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). The Association actively supports young researchers, women in science, and communities that have historically lacked access to international opportunities. By nurturing talent in all its diversity, UKABCS aims to create a stronger, more resilient global research community.

UKABCS’s work is already supported through international collaborations with leading educational platforms and research companies. Partnerships with organisations like Bioinformatics Gate (Egypt) and EBO Bio Solution (UK) have allowed the Association to launch scholarships, open calls, and innovative educational initiatives such as audiobooks and dual-language courses. These collaborations reflect UKABCS’s core belief that science is strongest when it is collaborative and borderless.

The official launch of UKABCS is only the beginning. With its headquarters in the UK and a growing international network spanning the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, the Association is positioning itself as a global leader in academic and research capacity building. By linking education with real-world application, and by fostering partnerships between academia and industry, UKABCS is determined to help shape a future where science truly serves humanity.
