UKABCS Announces £220,000 Worth of Publication and Conference Fee Waivers from the International Journal of Biotechnology and Computational Science (IJBTCS) to Support Global Researchers London, 25 September 2025 – The UK Association for Biotechnology and Computational Science (UKABCS) is proud to announce that it has received a package of in-kind waivers and fee reductions from the International Journal of Biotechnology and Computational Science (IJBTCS), with a total value of £220,000.This initiative is designed to empower researchers worldwide, particularly those from developing countries, by reducing or removing financial barriers to publishing their scientific work and participating in international conferences organized by IJBTCS.

Publication Support Waivers

Publication fees are among the most significant challenges faced by researchers, especially in developing regions. Through this initiative, IJBTCS has allocated waivers to cover publication costs under the following framework, administered transparently by UKABCS:

  • Waivers and reductions are only granted after a paper has been accepted through the standard peer review process, ensuring academic quality and integrity.
  • Details of support:
    • Full waiver of publication fees for researchers from developing countries.
    • 50% reduction of publication fees for researchers from the UK and Europe.
  • Once accepted, researchers will receive an official grant letter or credit reference number from UKABCS to apply toward publication fees.
  • The scheme does not alter or relax the peer review process in any way – all submissions must undergo rigorous, independent academic evaluation before eligibility for financial support.

Conference Participation Waivers

The initiative also covers participation in the three international conferences organized annually by IJBTCS, which are recognized as important platforms for knowledge exchange and collaboration.

  • Researchers can benefit from up to 75% waiver of registration fees, with a minimum 25% contribution required to cover operational costs.
  • The waivers apply to registration and publication fees within the conferences and do not cover travel or accommodation expenses.
  • UKABCS will manage and allocate the waivers fairly and transparently, ensuring maximum impact across different regions and disciplines.

Purpose and Impact

The primary goal of this initiative is to reduce financial barriers that often prevent researchers from disseminating their work or engaging in the global scientific community.Mr. Khizar Hayat – Director of UKABCS, stated:

"We are delighted to receive these waivers valued at £220,000 from IJBTCS. This initiative allows us to provide substantial support to researchers, particularly from developing countries, by easing the costs of publishing and international participation while maintaining the highest academic standards."The IJBTCS Editorial Board added:

"This program reflects our long-term commitment to open science and equal opportunities. By providing fee waivers and reductions, we aim to enable broader access to international publishing and conferences, while ensuring that all work undergoes the same rigorous peer review process."
