Educational Open Call – Reference Audio Book Access (Arabic)

Essentials of Computational Chemistry: Theory and Modelling

The UK Association for Biotechnology & Computational Science (UKABCS), in partnership with Bioinformatics Gate, proudly introduces a landmark initiative: the complete audio-explained edition of “Essentials of Computational Chemistry: Theory and Modelling”, now available in both Arabic and English. This is not just an audiobook—it is a pioneering step in making one of the most important references in computational chemistry truly accessible to students and researchers worldwide.

About the Book

Essentials of Computational Chemistry: Theory and Modelling is a globally recognized textbook that provides a comprehensive foundation for the field. It is widely used in universities and research institutions to teach the principles, methods, and applications of computational chemistry. The book is structured around a logical progression of topics, beginning with the theoretical underpinnings of quantum chemistry and extending to practical applications in modeling and drug discovery. It covers:

  • Fundamental Quantum Mechanics: Core principles forming the backbone of computational approaches.
  • Molecular Orbital Theory and Approximations: Tools for understanding electronic structure.
  • Molecular Mechanics and Force Fields: How molecules are modeled at the classical level.
  • Electronic Structure Methods (HF, DFT, Post-HF): Methods for accurate predictions of molecular behavior.
  • Solvation and Environmental Effects: Accounting for reality in chemical simulations.
  • Advanced Topics in Spectroscopy and Reactivity: Applications in chemical and pharmaceutical research.

For years, this book has been a critical—yet challenging—reference. Its density, technical language, and depth made it invaluable but often inaccessible, particularly for non-native English speakers.

Why an Audio-Explained Edition?

Traditional reading of scientific references can be overwhelming: dense pages, heavy equations, and a constant battle with technical English. Many students purchase such books but rarely master their content. This initiative reimagines the experience:

  • References You Can Listen To: Learning while commuting, exercising, or relaxing.
  • Clarity in Your Own Language: Dual-language explanations in Arabic and English ensure accessibility for researchers across the Arab world while maintaining scientific rigor.
  • Professional Scientific Narration: Not casual reading, but structured explanations from specialists in computational chemistry and bioinformatics.
  • Time Efficiency: Transform lost hours into moments of growth, turning passive time into productive study.
  • Sustainable Access: A long-term model for making high-value resources accessible at reduced cost, ensuring researchers no longer face prohibitive expenses.

The Educational Value of This Grant

This initiative is not simply the release of an audiobook. It is a scholarship of knowledge. By subsidizing the cost of access, UKABCS and Bioinformatics Gate provide researchers with:

  • Financial Relief: The original textbook costs the equivalent of 1200 EGP. With the grant, students and researchers can access it for half the price—or less.
  • Capacity Building: Equipping students and early-career researchers with tools to understand and apply computational chemistry in real projects.
  • Breaking Barriers: Language, cost, and time are no longer limitations.
  • Accredited Support: Learners benefit from the credibility of UKABCS and Bioinformatics Gate, organizations committed to advancing research and training.

This grant ensures that a resource once reserved for elite institutions is now in the hands of the wider research community.

Contribution Model (Fees)

Through shared support from UKABCS and Bioinformatics Gate, the book is made available under a sustainable contribution model:

UKABCS Members
£5  (~310 EGP)
Scholarship Awardees
£5  (~310 EGP)
Non-Members
£10 (~600 EGP, instead of 1200 EGP full price)

💡 Note: UKABCS covers half of the original cost, while Bioinformatics Gate sustains the other half. All contributions are reinvested into UKABCS’s mission of supporting global research, training, and capacity building.

Our Vision

This initiative goes beyond a single book. It is about reshaping the culture of scientific learning across the Arab world and the global community.

  • No longer will references be silent, intimidating volumes—they will be companions on every journey.
  • No longer will students feel left behind—scientific content will be delivered in the language of clarity and accessibility.
  • No longer will time be wasted—every moment becomes a chance to listen, learn, and grow.

Through this bold initiative, UKABCS reinforces its mission to democratize advanced scientific knowledge, empower Arabic-speaking researchers, and foster sustainable models of education and training worldwide.
